The LGBT came to national attention after the Stonewall Inn Riots in 1969. Ever since then, the LGBT community has publicly and actively fought for their rights in society. The LGBT community felt quite unheard and targeted against, by the media, the government and law enforcement. Because of this mistrust and tension between these groups, many riots occurred. Originally the name for AIDS was GRID Gay Related Immune Deficiency, it was only considered related to gays and many were turned away in hospitals, aide was not a priority for America. Because this lack of media attention and care, the gay community felt discriminated against.
